Welcome to the official web site dedicated to the life and work of Nikola Martinoski.
Martinoski is, without any hesitation, one of the most significant persons in the growth of the Macedonian 20th century culture. Born in Krushevo in 1903, he graduated in the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, Romania in 1927 as the student of the year. In 1927 and 1928 he stayed in Paris where he attended Académie de la Grande Chaumière and Ransan. After his return in Macedonia, apart from introducing European modern art tendencies typical for the Paris school, he exposes himself through his social activity. Martinoski is the initiator and he manages the establishment of the Art High School in Skopje, the Association of Artists and the Artistic Gallery in Skopje (now National Gallery of Macedonia). He also participates in the founding of the Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts and other institutions that are still the basic fundamental elements of the Macedonian cultural life. This web cite consists of gallery, information on exhibitions and awards, added to the texts on Martinoski written by Prof. Boris Petkovski, Ph.D., who was one of the most important researchers of the life and work of this renowned artist. The texts are taken from the book “Nikola Martinoski”, published in 1997 by the Art Gallery – Skopje.
SM-art Media is expressing its gratitude for the assistance in realisation of this project to the National Gallery of Macedonia, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of the City of Skopje.
This project has been financed with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia.
